£15,000 to help establish an Emmaus community on Merseyside for homeless people.
Emmaus Merseyside is one of 24 Emmaus projects across the UK. Emmaus projects provide accommodation, training and employment for homeless people to rebuild their lives. People who live at Emmaus help to run the facility, prepare the food, clean the premises, renovate furniture and work in the shop.
In Merseyside, Emmaus are establishing a community in Seaforth and work is underway to build a residential development for completion in spring 2015. This will house 26 self-contained bedrooms, catering standard kitchen facilities, communal dining area, lounge, and keep fit and other training facilities.
PH Holt Foundation is supporting the retail activity, integral to Emmaus’s long term sustainability. A former warehouse in Sandy Road is now selling a wide variety of donated items of furniture, clothing, books and bric a brac.
